The University Studies Advising Center (USAC) serves students who are exploring majors and careers, including those students who no longer want to pursue their current major. The center also advises students utilizing main campus courses to pursue completion of the Bachelor of General Studies degree. The USAC additionally provides information and assistance to students interested in declaring a major in Interdisciplinary Studies.
The USAC provides the following:
- Assistance in matching courses with degrees/fields of interest (academic advising)
- Assistance in declaring and completing paperwork for the major in Interdisciplinary Studies
- Comprehensive knowledge of University policies, procedures, and degree requirements
- Referrals to the appropriate educational and support units on campus
- Explanation of the Degree Audit Report (DAR), personalized progress tracking system
- Information on how to calculate your grade point average (GPA)

General Studies: The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree is designed to give you maximum flexibility in earning your degree by utilizing credits from a variety of disciplines. The major's ability to accept a greater amount of electives allows you to complete your degree with a minimum amount of additional coursework.
Interdisciplinary Studies: The Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) major allows you to create an individualized cross-disciplinary major that can be tailored to your individual career and educational goals. The major is designed for students who wish to create their own academic programs by choosing courses in more than one academic area.
