Alan Byrd Jr. has been the Associate Director of Enrollment Management at Southeast Missouri State University since August 2005.  He began working in the Office of Admissions in February 2000 and currently supervises the recruitment staff in the office.  As the associate director, he plans and implements annual recruitment activities, sets territory management responsibilities, and directs the University’s minority recruitment plan.  His responsibilities also include coordinating the First-Year Student Retention Program and supervising the Multicultural Recruitment Team.

Alan was raised in St. Louis and is the oldest of three children.  He graduated from Southeast Missouri State in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and a minor in business administration.  In 2004, Alan completed a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration at Southeast.  As an undergraduate student, Alan was very active on campus.  He was a member of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and Society of Professional Journalist (SPJ).  He was the punt return man for the football team in 1996 and 1997 and was the editor of the Capaha Arrow newspaper in 1999.  He had a very positive experience at Southeast and doesn't have a problem sharing it with prospective students and their families.
