James "Joe" Gholson of Harrisburg, Ill., 2008 graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science degree with a major in biology, biomedical sciences option, has been accepted to and plans to attend Harvard Medical School beginning in the fall. The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi recently recognized Gholson's achievements with its Slater Fellowship, awarded to the top ranked student nationally in the biological sciences.

Southeast Missouri State University is Missouri’s most academically competitive comprehensive, regional university. Southeast offers 200 areas of study with numerous academic accreditations and is the only university in Missouri to have a separate campus dedicated to art, dance, music and theatre. With more than 10,800 students, Southeast is an ideal size to take advantage of critical learning and extracurricular opportunities. Southeast has freshman class sizes averaging 25-30 students, and an overall student-faculty ratio of 18 to 1.
