To be eligible for Southeast’s Provisional Alternative Certification program, you must have a degree in or close to the content area you want to teach. You must also have at least a 2.5 GPA, and a teaching position in that area in a Missouri school district to qualify for the program. We have a list of the state’s requirements on our website.
This office reviews transcripts for any of the alternative certification content areas in the state. If you would like a transcript review, please complete and submit the Transcript Review Request Form listed on our website. Once a program has been approved for you, you and your hiring district will need to submit a Joint Application for Provisional Certificate online through the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) website.
Once approved, an Academic Contract will be completed online by this office listing all required coursework in order to complete the program. All completed paperwork is then electronically submitted by this office to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for processing. You will be able to view your Provisional Certificate online from DESE. The Provisional Certificate is designed to be completed in two years.
The employing school district must complete the online Application for Provisional Certificate (Joint Application). The employee must also submit all official transcripts to the Certification Office for processing.
