In the English Vertical Teams Institute, participants will work together to plan all aspects of the curriculum from grades six through twelve. Each genre or area will be discussed and groups will work together to create a vertical curriculum that reinforces but does not repeat skills, strategies, and materials. AP Materials and goals will be examined to help align plans and approaches to learning. Preparation for the new SAT, AP exams, and state goals (MAPS) will be integrated into the planning. Much of the institute will involve hands-on activities that focus on reading, writing, literature, grammar, and vocabulary. Teachers will need to bring their textbooks and any materials relevant to planning for the next year. Finally, there will be sharing, cooperation, and fun, because teaching and learning should be enjoyable. |
