Participation Requirements

The following policies and procedures will apply to all certified secondary school teachers in the State of Missouri applying for acceptance into an Advanced Placement Teacher Development Institute at Southeast Missouri State University.

Each AP Institute has limited seating (15-20 participants). Admission to an AP Institute is by application which must be completed and signed by the applicant and the high school principal. Incomplete applications will be returned to the applicant for completion. Selection for participation in an AP Institute is based upon the following criteria:

  • An applicant must hold a baccalaureate degree.
  • An applicant should have a minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • An applicant must be teaching in a secondary school in the current (2008-2009) and subsequent (2009-2010) academic year.
  • An applicant must have the approval and recommendation of a direct supervisor, the AP Coordinator, or the school principal.
  • An applicant must be teaching, have taught, be willing to develop, or be in the process of developing an AP course for the subsequent academic years 2009-2010 or 2010-2011.
  • The parent institution must commit to offer an AP course subsequent to the AP Institute which the applicant attends in academic years 2009-2010 or 2010-2011.

In addition to the Institute Application, an applicant must submit a one-time non-refundable $25 Admissions fee, NON-DEGREE APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION.

All applicants are responsible for transportation, housing, and meals.

All APTD institutes are offered at no cost for tuition to qualified Missouri secondary school teachers who have been Missouri residents for 12 calendar months prior to their enrollment date. *  All applicant's must pay a one-time, non-refundable $25 Admissions fee.

* Non-Missouri residents who teach in Missouri must file additional forms and materials. Non-Missouri residents who do not teach in Missouri may attend the institute, but will be required to pay non-resident graduate fees to Southeast Missouri State University. Non-Missouri residents may also attend an institute for a fee of $600 for Continuing Education Units.
