Each student produces a finished piece, which he or she can take home. During the event students also visit exhibits on campus and tour the galleries. Teachers also participate in creative sessions and share their teaching innovations.

The Art Department of Southeast Missouri State University sponsors an after school art program to empower underserved youth through relationship building and art making activities. Art educators, art education majors, and artists volunteer their time to enrich the lives of the Art Reach students. The curriculum explores a variety of cultures, disciplines, and media. In addition, guest artists discuss and demonstrate their art processes. A culminating exhibit of the Art Reach students’ work is displayed annually at the River Campus Center during the River Campus Arts Festival in June and at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri in August.
