Internships 101: What You Need to Know
Finding the right internship opportunity takes patience, persistence and preparation. The following will guide you through this process.
If you are seeking an internship for class credit:
Contact the Internship Coordinator in the department your major resides: [Insert .pdf of departmental internship coordinators and contact information]
Your Major Department Internship Coordinator will be able to provide specific details how to apply/enroll for internships in your major.
Students may consider additional internship experiences that do not receive academic credit. Contact Career Services to schedule an appointment with a professional staff member to assist you with your preparation and search. 573-651-2583.
REDConnect – Create an account or log in to your REDConnect account and follow the prompts to search for current internship opportunities
Networking: Network with students in your major and learn where they interned; ask faculty members; contact Career Services for additional resources at 573-651-2583.
Attend Career Service Workshops: Throughout the year Career Services hosts a variety of outreach events with tips, tricks and techniques to connect you with resources to assist your search. Be sure to attend the All Majors Career Fair, scheduled each spring semester. This is YOUR opportunity to meet employers and discover internship opportunities.
CENTER FOR STRATEGIC & INTERNATIONAL STUDIES (CSIS) [Insert links to CSIS Overview & CSIS Application Process for Stipend]
If you are/ have participated in UI498- Section 22 – you may be eligible to apply for an internship at the Washington D. C. center – and be eligible for consideration for a Southeast-sponsored stipend. This opportunity is only open to students who are/have participated in the CSIS program.
