Rooms have been reserved for conference participants until September 19 at Drury Lodge ($75-85, including breakfast buffet) and Pear Tree Inn ($60-75, including continental breakfast). Participants staying in the Drury Lodge and Pear Tree Inn will be provided shuttle transportation from the motels to the University campus. Pick-up time for the Thursday evening opening program will be 5:15 p.m. A van schedule for the remainder of the conference will be available at the registration desk.
Cape Girardeau is located on the Mississippi River, roughly halfway between St. Louis and Memphis. Highway access is via Interstate 55 or Illinois State Highways 3 and 146. There is airline service from St. Louis, but not from Memphis. Taxi fare via the Yellow Cab Company, (573) 335-5533, from the Cape Girardeau airport to the local motels is approximately $15.
From the St. Louis airport, take I-70 east toward St. Louis and then take I-55 toward Memphis. Cape Girardeau is a two-hour drive from St. Louis. A local van service, BART (573) 335-0844, provides round-trip transportation from the St. Louis airport to Cape Girardeau for $116 per person.
From the Memphis airport, take I-240 to I-55 north toward St. Louis. Cape Girardeau is a three-hour drive from Memphis. There is no shuttle service from Memphis to Cape Girardeau.
From I-55, take Route K exit and travel east (Route K becomes William Street) to Pacific. Turn left on Pacific and travel to Normal Avenue. Turn left on Normal. The University Center is on the left at the next intersection (Normal and Henderson).
From Illinois 146, cross the river bridge and turn right on Pacific. Turn left on Normal. The University Center is on the left at the next intersection (Normal and Henderson).
A parking permit, if requested in advance, will be included in the packet of materials made available to registrants at the registration desk. Lot 18, located on Henderson Avenue just across from the University Center, has been reserved for conferees. (Note to visitors: If you get a parking ticket in this lot or elsewhere on campus, turn it in to the registration desk.)
