CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 25, 2008 -- Southeast Missouri State University’s Center for Faulkner Studies has received a $1,658 grant from the Missouri Humanities Council (MHC).

The grant will support the Faulkner and Chopin Conference, scheduled for Oct. 2-4 on the Southeast campus.  The conference will focus on the literary works of Nobel Prize-winning author William Faulkner and Kate Chopin, a popular feminist author who is a native of St. Louis.

In addition to scholarly papers by academics from four foreign countries and a dozen American states, the conference will feature a keynote address by Barbara Ewell,  Dorothy Harrell Brown Professor of English at Loyola University of New Orleans, and a readers’ theater presentation, “A Salon with Kate Chopin and William Faulkner,” scripted and directed by Roseanna Whitlow, a playwright who is an instructor of communication studies at Southeast Missouri State University.
