Clinical Year Courses

These courses comprise the fourth year of the cooperative Medical Technology Program and must be taken at an NAACLS accredited program.  There may be slight variations in credit hours granted, course titles and course content, depending on the specific clinical program.

MT300 Clinical Chemistry - Analytical and theoretical aspects of the clinical biochemistry of body fluid constituents, utilizing both manual and instrumental techniques, including automation and special procedures.  (8-10 hours)

MT301 Clinical Microscopy - Principles and techniques of the physical, chemical and microscopic examination of urine and other excreta as related to disease processes.  (1-2 hours)

MT302 Hematology and Coagulation - Study of cellular elements of blood and bone marrow; theory of cell production, release and survival; morphological characteristics of normal and abnormal cells; quantitative and qualitative abnormalities.  Principles and techniques involved in the study of hemostasis, blood coagulation and hemorrhagic disorders.  (6-8 hours)

MT303 Serology-Immunology - Science of immunity including antibody development, principles of antigen-antibody interactions and techniques of serological testing for various disease states.  (2-4 hours)

MT304 Clinical Microbiology - Sterile technique, methods of handling and inoculating specimens containing pathogenic microorganisms, isolation and identification of pathogenic microorganisms, laboratory tests in chemotherapy, and diagnostic bacteriology, mycology and parasitology.  (7-9 hours)

MT305 Blood Bank-Immunohematology - Study of the blood group systems and the immune response.  Methods of cross-matching, antibody screening and phenotyping.  Administrative safeguards and legal aspects of blood banking.  Proper clinical utilization of blood components.  (3-4 hours)

MT-306 Special Topics in Medical Technology - Instruction includes lecture and/or clinical practice in the areas of in-service education, management and supervision, research and development, and principles and techniques of the instruction process.  (1-4 hours)
