In the span of eight days, Dr. Roseanna Whitlow judged the Cape Girardeau Town Crier competition on Sept. 30; gave a presentation, "Speaking Presentation Skills," to UI100 on Oct. 4; and presented an original play, "The Mighty Mississippi Melodrama," for a tour group from Milwaukee on Oct. 7.
The Department of Communication is proud of Dr. Whitlow's continuous work in the community. Not only does she always have activities such as those listed above, but she teaches a full-time class load and one overload course this fall semester.
Dr. Whitlow said she recently had Don Greenwood, local artisan, as the guest instructor for her UI100 Narrative Speaking: Oral Tradition and Storytelling classes. She says she believes students need academic structure but also some old-fashioned FUN in order to learn.
"(Don) taught the classes to juggle, an important skill for a well-rounded storyteller,"
she said. "It was quite a sight!"
