Southeast Debate Team
The Southeast Debate Team is a highly successful and award-winning team that gives students of any major the opportunity to sharpen and show off their oral communication skills within the argumentative arena. The Southeast Debate Team has received national awards from the National Educational Debate Association. In addition, the team was ranked first in the nation for the 2001-2002 school year.

Lamba Pi Eta
Our chapter of Lamba Pi Eta, the National Honorary Society for Undergraduates in Communication, is the Kappa Delta chapter. Lamba Pi Eta is an accredited member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), and has 420 active chapters at colleges and universities worldwide.
Each letter of Lamba Pi Eta represents what Aristotle identified as the principal modes of persuasion. The first, logic, plays a central role in deliberations and problem solving. The second, pathos (emotional appeal), constitutes a driving force that animates individuals and groups and is at the heart of virtue. The third, ethos (or character / credibility), is also vital to one’s ability to influence others; one must be perceived as knowledgeable, trustworthy and having goodwill in order to be respected and believed.
In order to become a member of Lamba Pi Eta, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
- have completed at least 60 semester hours
- have completed at least 12 semester hours of communication study
- have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- have a communication studies GPA of at least 3.25
- be in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class
- be in good standing with our University
- display commitment to the field / ethics of communication
