Mass Communication Scholarships

Each year the deadline for these scholarships is March 1.

All applications can be obtained from the University Scholarship Committee Office in Academic Hall, Rm 123. Links to other scholarship possibilities appear beneath these entries.

John and Mary Blue Scholarship for Journalism  (Up to $500)


Voted on by the Department Scholarship Committee and a Member of the Cape Rotary Club.

Criteria:

  • Mass Communication major, must have GPA of 2.8 or higher.   
  • Award can be used for fees, or to provide financial assistance for travel abroad.

Charles and Mary Ellen Sharp Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students (Up to $500) 


Voted on by the University Scholarship Committee

Criteria:

  • Undergraduate major in History, English, or any area of Communications
  • Must be at least 20 years of age, be a Self-Supporting, Non-Traditional Student w/at least one dependent
  • FAFSA form from Financial Aid Services preferred to verify financial need
  • Must maintain at least a GPA of 2.75 with an achieved 3.0 GPA for the semester completed prior to submitting the application.

Ruth Humphreys Munger Scholarship (Up to $500)


Voted on by: University Scholarship Committee

Criteria:

  • Must be a Journalism or Communication major

 

R. Ferrell Ervin Memorial Scholarship (Up to $500)


Voted on by: Department Scholarship Committee

Criteria:

  • Must be an upcoming Junior or Senior pursuing any degree in the Department of Communication.

  • Must have 3.5 GPA at time of award and maintain to re-apply.


Communication Studies’ Faculty Oversee the Following Three Scholarships


The Fred B. Goodwin Scholarship: Open to any student who demonstrates promise in debate. Renewable.

The Limbaugh Speech Scholarship: Awarded to a worthy student of good moral character who is interested in and preparing for a career in which the power of speech and communication are vital factors. Financial need is considered, but recipient must have an innate gift for public speaking and oratory with a desire to improve himself/herself in development of those gifts.

Oliver Oratory Prize: Partial fee scholarship for upperclassmen who have demonstrated superior academic and communication skills.

Please Note: You must have an FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office in order to apply for a scholarship.
