Southeast Debate Team
The Southeast Debate Team is a highly successful and award-winning team that gives students of any major the opportunity to sharpen and show off their oral communication skills within the argumentative arena. The Southeast Debate Team has received national awards from the National Educational Debate Association. In addition, the team was ranked first in the nation for the 2001-2002 school year.

Lamba Pi Eta
Our chapter of Lamba Pi Eta, the National Honorary Society for Undergraduates in Communication, is the Kappa Delta chapter. Lamba Pi Eta is an accredited member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), and has 420 active chapters at colleges and universities worldwide.
Each letter of Lamba Pi Eta represents what Aristotle identified as the principal modes of persuasion. The first, logic, plays a central role in deliberations and problem solving. The second, pathos (emotional appeal), constitutes a driving force that animates individuals and groups and is at the heart of virtue. The third, ethos (or character / credibility), is also vital to one’s ability to influence others; one must be perceived as knowledgeable, trustworthy and having goodwill in order to be respected and believed.
In order to become a member of Lamba Pi Eta, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
- have completed at least 60 semester hours
- have completed at least 12 semester hours of communication study
- have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- have a communication studies GPA of at least 3.25
- be in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class
- be in good standing with our University
- display commitment to the field / ethics of communication

Students can join the local chapter of this organization, whose membership includes professional reporters and editors in addition to Southeast faculty and journalism students. Members are dedicated to freedom of the press and the public’s “right to know.”

Media Communications Association-International (MCA-I)
This organization (http://mca-i.org/) is a professional chapter involving both students and professionals interested in video production. Kappa Tau Alpha (KTA)
The national honorary society for journalism and mass communication awards membership to students who have completed 75 credit hours and maintained a minimum 3.5 GPA. Only the top 10 percent of the department’s eligible graduates may be selected for membership.

The National Broadcasting Society/Alpha Epsilon Rho
The Southeast chapter of NBS brings members and area radio professionals together to discuss significant trends and events occurring in the radio broadcasting industry. In addition to monthly chapter meetings, annual regional and national NBS conventions, NBS offers students excellent opportunities for networking with pros.

Rage 103.7, KDMC: "The True Alternative"
A Low-Power FM Radio Station, staffed by students, the station offers announcing, control room, production and management experiences in a controlled setting. The alternative rock format also features music by local artists.
