Ann is responsible for both internal and external communication at the University.
"The News Bureau is responsible for communicating news about the University to media outlets throughout southeast Missouri and southern Illinois, as well as internally to the University's employees," she says.
Ann serves as a spokesperson for the University and regularly fields calls from area media seeking information about the University. She is the University's liaison with radio, television, print and interactive media throughout the University's service region.
The News Bureau generates stories and distributes them to the media on student successes, faculty research, arts and entertainment, upcoming events, Board of Regents news and prospective students. The News Bureau also manages the distribution of news throughout the University's Website.
Ann writes and edits the twice-weekly Newswire, which is an electronic newsletter distributed to University faculty and staff. She also responds to questions submitted to the University's Rumor Mill, which is an online forum designed to improve communication among administration and the University's faculty, staff, students and external constituents. The News Bureau also maintains the University's Master Calendar.
"My favorite parts of my job are writing and working with people. I am a reporter by training and love to talk with people, research and gather information, and write," Ann said. "I also enjoy my job because every day brings something new. In the news business, what's news today is passé tomorrow," she added.
In addition to her work at the University, Ann is active with several organizations. She serves on the board of both the Tri-State Advertising and Marketing Professionals and the Southeast Missouri Press Association. She is also active at St. Vincent de Paul School.
Ann and her husband, Rocky, are the parents of two boys, Eric and Matthew. Ann says she enjoys attending their sporting events.
"They both play on baseball and basketball teams. Most of our evenings during the summer are spent at a baseball field and, during the fall and winter, we can be found in the bleachers at area gyms," she said.
Ann also is an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball and University of Notre Dame Irish
