What's in your backyard? Explore botany and the wonders of plant life as you become your own backyard biologist! Find out how much fun biology can be by working in a laboratory, using microscopes, and participating in scientific adventures. Visit the greenhouse, take plant cuttings, and explore the mysteries of germination. Examine some flying insects and slithering bugs that can be found in your backyard. Make your ideas of the perfect hangout come to life! Would you have a two-story movie room… what about an indoor swimming pool? Create a 3-D model of a house using the computer software, Chief Architect. You’ll learn how to produce floor plans and color renderings, and then you'll create multiple views of your creation. Instructor: Doug Koch, Dept. of Industrial & Engineering Tech.
Junior Astronaut: Space Mission Camp Join a crew on a mission to the Moon! Teamwork skills and creative activities show how astronauts live and work in space. Investigate rockets and take engineering design challenges! Earn young astronaut designation and receive an awesome NASA patch. Must be 9-12 years of age. Learn to be a PRO with ProEngineer! Draw an existing object in 3D or design your own new invention using ProEngineer software. Then watch as we use a rapid prototyping machine to make one or more designs come to life! Upon completion of the class students will receive a fully licensed copy of ProEngineer which they can install at home to keep designing more inventions! Must be at least 12 years of age. Do you have a knack for investigation? Would you like to be a hard-hitting reporter? Here’s your chance! Join us for this week long look into the life of a reporter and try your hand at writing your own stories and articles. You will research, write, and publish a story or article in the newspaper. Instructor: Mirra Anson, MS in English and Higher Education Administration
Do some of your best friends have four-legs? If you have a love for animals, then join us as we become Junior Veterinarians for the week. You’ll learn the basics from a local veterinarian. From animal behavior and anatomy, to diagnosis and treatment, you’ll discover the many sources of information veterinarians rely on everyday to save our furry friends. You’ll even spend time in the lab identifying parasites that harm animals and have your “patients” visit you in the classroom! *For students with allergies, please note that students will interact with animals throughout the week.
