Social Sciences
Discover how to uncover the mysteries of past civilizations. As a young archaeologist, you’ll learn how professionals excavate great artifacts and begin to understand the stories they tell. You will have the chance to use tools and techniques on an actual “dig,” where you will find your own treasures. We will take a trip Friday to a major archaeological site. Field Trip: Cahokia Mounds (Collinsville, Il.), Friday Instructor: Jim Phillips, Missouri Regional Museum *Class will meet from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday
Paleontology: Fantastic Fossil Fun Did you know that Missouri was once home to dinosaurs? Come join our week long adventure as we learn about fossils, how they form, and what kinds of organisms they represent. We'll be exploring the SEMO fossil collection, and learning what kind of fossils you can find locally. The week will end with a day-long field trip to the Bollinger County Museum of Natural History in Marble Hill to see remains of the Missouri dinosaurs. On the way, we'll stop and see if we can find fossils of our own to take home. Field Trips: Bollinger County Museum of Natural History (Marble Hill, Mo.) Instructor: Brent Ashcraft, MS in Biology *Class will meet from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday |
