Potpourri To Bee or Not to Bee: Backyard Beekeeping 101 Are you interested in bee keeping but not sure if it is right for you? This course will include instruction on working, managing, and handling bees for pleasure or profit, how to harvest honey and pollen, basic bee behavior and biology and their importance to the world we live in. The discussion portion of the class will be conducted indoors. In addition, students will participate in a field trip to a local bee yard for hands-on demonstrations of beekeeping techniques. Dates/Time: Mondays & Wednesdays, Sept. 28-Nov. 7, 6-8 p.m. Reverend Grant Gillard is the founder of the Jackson Area Beekeepers Group. A self-published author of four beekeeping e-books and a frequent contributor to the American Beekeeping Journal, Grant started keeping bees in 1981 and has steadily grown his hive numbers to 200. He currently sells honey through three farmer’s markets and two retail grocery stores and is often called to retrieve swarms and be a featured speaker for local beekeeping associations.

Learn the secrets to being successful in an “unsuccessful environment.” We will learn how to go beyond “positive thinking” and help you gain control of your life when everything seems out of control. In addition, she also instructs yoga classes and has a certification in hypnotherapy.
Family Rock Climbing Adventure Treat your family to a memorable experience while discovering the thrills of outdoor rock climbing! Starting with the basics of safety, instructors will provide a supportive and fun environment for the whole family. Parents will quickly learn the rope safety techniques of belaying while younger students are learning to rock climb. As the day progresses, everyone will have the opportunity to climb, cheer and experience the excitement of outdoor rock climbing. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Location: Class will meet at Giant City State Park, Makanda, Ill. Chris Huebner has been climbing and teaching others how to rock climb since 2001. Chris currently works as a climbing wall supervisor for Recreation Services at Southeast Missouri State University while pursuing a bachelor of science degree in recreation.
Quick & Easy Techniques to De-stress Do you come home from work everyday feeling tired and stressed-out? Do you have trouble getting past the daily mental and physical stressors in your life? In this short class we will learn techniques to help you let go of those mental and physical stressors. We’ll learn and practice several relaxation techniques including meditation, self-hypnosis, and progressive relaxation. Join us and prepare to be de-stressed! Wilderness Survival Being able to live comfortably for an extended period of time without ready food or fresh water is not only a sound mental and physical investment, but it also permits one to get closer and understand nature on its most basic level. With recent storms, many of us experienced what it would be like to live for days without electricity. The Cape Girardeau area is likely to experience more bad weather and potentially in danger of facing a catastrophic earthquake… so learning basic survival skills could become increasingly important. He has an extensive background in environmental studies and nature writing and has taught courses in survival skills training. Gurnow also is employed at Trail of Tears as a trail maintenance supervisor. |
