Want to impress your friends every Saturday night on the dance floor AND knock the socks off your family at the next wedding? Ballroom dancing is taught in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Traditional ballroom dancing will impress guests at weddings and formal events. Dancing is a way to meet new people, spice up the romance, and exercise! Students will learn a waltz, swing, cha-cha and two step. If time permits, we may also learn a barndance! Dates/Time: Fridays, February 20-March 27, 6:30-7:45 p.m. Instructors Mike Buerck and Barb Fink met in 1994 and have been dancing ever since. Mike and Barb have developed a passion for teaching dance to “everyday” people who want to learn and have fun. They have been teaching for 10 years and have shared their love of dance with people throughout the Southeast Missouri region. Mike and Barb are the reigning Kiwanis 50s and 60s dance champions and are avid students of dance who continuously look to add to their repertoire of dance moves.
If you’ve always admired Latin dancing, here is your chance to experience the fun for yourself. Take this class and learn all the basics to get you started. We’ll focus on making sure you get the basics as well as recognizing and dancing to that fantastic Latin music! Get ready to have some fun as we learn the basic styles of Salsa, Rumba, Bachatta, Cha Cha and Merenge. Dates/Time: Tuesdays, April 21-May 26, 6-7:15 p.m. Philip Edgecombe received his Master’s of Fine Arts degree in Choreography from the University of Arizona in May of 2006. A trained ballroom instructor, Philip has taught at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in downtown Chicago. Currently Philip teaches dance and choreography classes at Southeast Missouri State University.
Basic Digital Photography Would you like to get better pictures of Fido or see Jane run without blurring around the image? We have the course for you! Photographer, Sean Magee, will walk you through the basics of digital photography from shutter-speed to aperture. This three-day course will also demonstrate how to take images from your camera and “play” with them in Photoshop. You’ll be amazed when Fido looks fluffier and Jane’s smile shines! Students must bring a digital SLR camera to class. Dates/Time: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday, April 13, 15, & 17, 6-9 p.m. Sean Magee started his photography company, Magee Images, in 2005. With his combination of high-energy, passion for perfection and education from Southeast, Sean has a way of ensuring all his clients have a great time.
Ready to cure your digital burnout? Our photo class is different from any you’ve taken before! In this class, you’ll discover the art of using a fun and fascinating plastic medium format camera: the Holga. Led by photographer Tom Neumeyer, you’ll learn how to use a toy camera to produce amazing images. One Holga camera for each student and your first roll of film is provided in the cost of the course. Dates/Time: Every other Monday, March 9-May 18, 6-8 p.m. Tom Neumeyer, a professional photographer and owner of Neumeyer Photography, has been creating photographic images since high school. Neumeyer has earned recognition for his photographs in competition, including regional and national awards. He works with both digital and film image capture processes for his commercial and documentary work. Neumeyer also authored Cape Girardeau Then and Now. Have you ever wanted to be the voice everyone hears on commercials and documentaries? You too can become a Professional Voiceover Artist! In this fun and interactive class, you will learn some of the details of the industry. Your instructor will coach you while recording your voice. Be warned -- many who have taken this class have gone on to become real, bona-#de professional voice actors! This class is taught by a professional voice actor from the voice acting training company, Voices For All. Dates/Time: Thursday, April 2, 6-8 p.m. Mike Elmore, voice coach/instructor/producer, has been a professional Voice Actor since 1983. In addition to working in radio, Mike has performed voiceovers for clients such as Stridex, McDonalds, Dodge, T-Mobile, Motrin, Hasbro, TGI Fridays, and All My Children (trailer, ABC). Besides working as a professional voice actor, Mike’s passion is teaching aspiring voice actors. He has a great ability to encourage and empower his students to put their best foot forward, and has many tricks up his sleeve to get the most out of everyone.
Kiss those two left feet goodbye and... Swing into Spring! This class is the perfect introduction to Swing dancing. In this class you will learn several styles of swing all set to your favorite classic rock and swing tunes. Students will start with the basics and then work their way up to more flashy and complicated moves. Get ready to have a lot of FUN! No partner necessary, but recommended. This six-week course will cover aspects of all forms of commercial writing including creative, technical, children’s and young adult, non-fiction memoir or genre (western, sci-fi, romance) writing. Participants will be able to interact with the writing coach and fellow writers through discussing questions and approaches and understanding the nuances of solid writing and the commercial market in a casual workshop structure. A voluntary online submission process where you can showcase your work for other readers will also be available. If you have something finished, bring it with you. If not, let us hear your voice and your passions on paper as you begin the story you want to tell. Dates/Time: Mondays, March 23-April 27, 6-8 p.m. Dr. Thomas Eaton has authored over 42 short stories, five of which have been sold to various magazines. He has three completed novels and two novellas in circulation and was formerly represented by the Jody Rein Literary Agency in Colorado. Both a creative writer and a textbook reviewer/writer, Dr. Eaton facilitates community-based writing sessions and works, when not teaching children’s literature and young adult literature and language, as a freelance editor. He teaches in Southeast’s Department of English. |
