Begin to Knit: Let’s Knit a Scarf out of One Ball of Yarn

Make an easy, quick scarf!

Join us for this hands-on knitting workshop where we will cover the basics of knitting. You will learn about various types of yarn, different kinds of stitches, and how to knit! Everyone will knit their own scarf in class out of one ball of yarn to take home!

Dates/Time:  Thursdays, February 26-March 19, 6-8:30 p.m.

Fee:  $35 plus $15 for materials (knitting needles, yarn, and instruction manual)

Sydney Egan has been knitting since she was a child. She has sold afghans, sweaters, baby items and more through a consignment business for many years.

Beginning Scrapbooking

Want to capture memories forever, but don’t know where to start? This workshop will help you begin the wonderful hobby of scrapbooking!

You’ll learn all about the tools needed for scrapbooking, the different paper types used, different ways to embellish pages and techniques for organizing pictures. We’ll also show you different ideas for scrapbooks.  By the end of this course, you will have a completed two-page spread to begin your own scrapbook.

Say goodbye to boxes of photos shoved in storage at your house and hello to making beautiful scrapbook albums you can showcase for guests to see!

Dates/Time:  Tuesdays, March 31-April 21, 6-8:30 p.m.

Sydney Egan has been scrapbooking for many years. She worked in a local store teaching scrapbooking workshops and also has a business where she sells homemade scrapbooks and other craft items at fairs and on her own.

Introduction to Basic Wine Chemistry

Are you ready to raise your wine-making skills to a new level? You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to learn to perform basic wine chemistry tests from vintor Bob Eachus. You’ll learn how to determine free SO2 levels, acidity, and titratable acids.  This hands on course will cover all the essentials including how to build a cost-effective home lab and make basic adjustments to wine chemistry.  The difference between good wine and great wine is in the details.

Location:  Class will meet at Thousand Oaks Winery in Marble Hill, Mo.
Dates/Time:  Saturday, April 18, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Bob and James Eachus, Instructor 
Fee:  $39/person or $70/couple (must be 21 or older).  Transportation not included.

Robert Eachus is the founder, head wine-maker, and manager of Thousand Oaks Winery LLC (www.1000-oaks-winery.com).  His passion for growing grapes and making wine was acquired from older family members who raised grapes and made wine for their family. Thousand Oaks Winery & Vineyard strives to connect with visitors on a personal level and to promote Missouri agrotourism.  The winery is nestled in the scenic hills of Bollinger County, five miles from Patton on highway 51 South.

Going Organic

Does all the talk of “organic” products and practices confuse you? We will clear your confusion! You will leave with knowledge of the principles of organic gardening as well as what constitutes an “organic material” and how to garden using “organic practices.” Going organic can be one more step on your path to going green!

Make Your Own Household Cleaners

Do your part for the environment! More and more people are making efforts to “go green!” In this fun workshop, we’ll show you fun ways to “go green” and save money in the process! In this hands-on class, Ruth Dougherty of Ruth & John’s Soaps will show you how to make your own household cleaning products - window cleaners, laundry detergent, and more!  You’ll leave with products to take home with you and recipes so you can make more products, save money, and go green!

Dates/Time:  Saturday, March 28, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Fee:  $20 plus $15 for materials

Ruth Dougherty began making soaps in 2001 with her husband John. They had so much fun they started selling it to make more soap. This was the beginning of Ruth & John’s Soaps. Recently, Ruth has begun branching out to make more spa-type products, which are quickly becoming quite popular! Ruth now sells soaps, lotions, scrubs, and more at various festivals in Missouri and Illinois and at the Town Square Market in Carbondale.

Real Estate 101

Whether you’re a first time homebuyer or just ready to sell and buy a home, knowing the “in’s and out’s” of real estate can help you along the way.  In this introductory workshop, you will learn tips for first time homebuyers (including what credit is available to you), the importance of pre-approvals, and the difference a rate can make in your payment. We’ll also show you how to create curb appeal for sellers and give tips for what to look out for if you are a new buyer!

Fee:  $25

Sharon Gill has been in real estate for over 6 years and has always been a multi-million dollar producer.  Before going into real estate, Sharon worked in the finance industry for 23 years, giving her a great background in real estate! She loves people and loves showing houses, which makes selling real estate a perfect fit for her.
