Haunted Downtown Walking Tour

Are you looking for some fun and adventure this Halloween? Follow the lantern of your costumed guide through downtown and let the darkness of the past envelop you. Cape Girardeau’s historic downtown is full of “true” tales of ghosts and memorable characters as well as landmark buildings.

Tour sizes limited. Register early.

Pre-registration is required. Tours last approximately one hour.

Historic Cemeteries of Southeast Missouri

Do you find yourself intrigued by the peaceful atmosphere and historic significance of Southeast Missouri’s graveyards? Would you like to know more about these lovely pieces of land and the fascinating details of the lives of those buried there? In this class we will wander among the graves of some of the area’s most famous (and infamous) residents. We will discuss who died when, the symbolism found on headstones, burial customs and more. From legends and lore to history and mystery… this tour has it all!

Location:  Departs from Crisp Hall parking lot
Dates/Time: Saturday, Oct. 24, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Instructor: Dr. Frank Nickell

Frank Nickell, Director of the Center for Regional History, works with projects that explore the history of Southeast Missouri.  He has extensive knowledge and a love for the region making him the perfect tour leader.

Presidential Hometown Tour: Clinton’s Arkansas

Take an overnight trip to the home state of William Jefferson Clinton. We will travel to Little Rock, Ark., and visit the new William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum and other historical sites in the area.

Visit these Little Rock area sites:

• William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum
• Historic Arkansas Museum
• Old State House Museum
• Little Rock Central High School
• Mt. Holly Cemetery

Location:  Departs from Crisp Hall parking lot
Dates/Time:  Friday-Saturday, Nov. 13-14, 8 a.m. Friday-8:30 p.m. Saturday
