Dr. Jai N. Dahiya, Associate Dean and Professor of Physics

Dr. Dahiya received his bachelor of science degree in math, physics and chemistry from Punjab University in 1965 and his master’s degree in physics, with a specialization in solid-state electronics, from Meerut University in 1968. He went on to earn his doctorate in physics, with a specialization in microwave spectroscopy, from the University of North Texas in 1980.

Dr. Dahiya has published more than 60 papers in refereed journals in his area of specialization and has presented research papers at numerous national and international conferences.

Before joining Southeast Missouri State University, Dr. Dahiya was a faculty member in the Department of Physics at the following institutions:

  • Hindu College in Sonepat, India, 1968-1972
  • University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, 1980
  • Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, 1981
  • West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, W.Va., 1981-1984

Dr. Dahiya began his tenure at Southeast Missouri State University as an assistant professor of physics in 1984. He became a professor in 1993. Dr. Dahiya served as chairman of the Department of Physics during the summer of 1996. In 1999, he became the associate dean of the College of Science and Mathematics.

Dr. Dahiya also teaches physics classes, including General Physics II (calculus-based physics), and a UI 100 course on the topic of global issues - a comparison of Indian culture with American culture.

Dr. Dahiya has received a number of research grants (internal and external) while at Southeast. He is very active in his research in microwave spectroscopy and has involved 52 undergraduate students in this research. He has received numerous faculty awards, including the Southeast Missouri State University "Faculty Partner Of The Year" in 1999, the College of Science and Mathematics "P.R.I.D.E" award in 2000, the university-wide "Faculty Merit Award" and the 2001 "Governor's Award For Excellence In Teaching." Dr. Dahiya also received the "Outstanding Alumnus Award" from the University of North Texas in 2002. He received the College of Science & Mathematics "P.R.I.D.E" award once again during 2003. Dr. Dahiya also received the Post Professorial Merit adjustment during 2003.
