Dr. Chris McGowan, Dean

Dr. Chris McGowan is the dean of Southeast's College of Science and Mathematics and a professor in the Department of Chemistry.

Dr. McGowan earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, in 1973. He received a master's of science degree in 1976 and a doctorate in 1979, both in analytical chemistry, from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

Prior to his career at Southeast, Dr. McGowan was a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at Tennessee Technological University from 1978-1997. He also served as chairman of the department from 1992-1997.

Dr. McGowan began his tenure as dean of Southeast's College of Science and Mathematics in 1997.

He regularly teaches two courses:

  • UI 100 - First Year Seminar, during the fall semester, with a theme of the Manhattan Project
  • CH 181 - Basic Principles of Chemistry, an online course, during the spring semester
