‘Last Chance to Dance-Fall’ to Feature Student Choreographed Piecesby News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 29, 2012 – Dance pieces will be featured in the Theatre and Dance Second Stage Series event, “Last Chance to Dance-Fall,” scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
“Last Chance to Dance-Fall” allows students the opportunity to present work without an audition, according to Dr. Phil Nacy, chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance. “Occasionally, a faculty member will choreograph a piece, but most are choreographed by the dance students themselves.”
Most students performing will be theatre and dance majors, although students from other majors may participate. Every dancer wishing to be a part of “Last Chance to Dance” must audition. The performance is designed specifically for theatre and dance students but is open to any Southeast student. The show will include a large variety of styles including ballet, modern, tap and jazz.
“Last Chance to Dance-Fall” will feature solos, duets, trios and large groups, though typically the pieces feature groups over a single dancer.
“This performance is very popular and is getting more popular each year,” Nacy said. “Because the performance is more informal than our main-stage dance concerts, the atmosphere is loose and energetic, which makes for a fast-paced and exciting evening of dance. Many Southeast students who are not involved in the arts often make their way to the Bedell Hall for a Last Chance show.”
The event is free and open to the public. The performance may contain adult content.
