Dearmont Hall

Dearmont Hall was built between 1957-1958, and it first opened for students during the 1958-1959 academic year. An estimated 15,000 Southeast students have called Dearmont Hall home since 1958. Originally opened as an all-female hall, Dearmont went co-ed in 1991. In 1995, Dearmont Hall closed its doors for residential living and became overflow and guest housing. In the Fall of 1998, Dearmont re-opened to provide more housing opportunities for Southeast students. Today, 11 of the 12 floors house students.

Dearmont Hall is a traditional-style, 3-story residence hall built around a central courtyard or "quad". There are 4 wings and a central complex that surround the quad. The patio and large main lounge are great for socializing, meeting friends, and hosting hall activities. Within the air-conditioned complex, students have access to vending machines, an ice machine, and information desk services. At the Information Desk, students can make change, buy stamps and envelopes, borrow vacuum cleaners and tools, and receive mail and packages. Dearmont Hall is located next to Kent Library and is centrally located near many academic buildings, the University Center, and Academic Hall.

Each of the 11 floors in Dearmont Hall can house up to 34 residents. Begining in the Fall of 2008 all individual rooms will be equipped with a portable air-conditioning unit, there aos  an air-conditioned lounge on each floor. All of the rooms and lounges have cable television. As in the other traditional-style halls, each floor has a community bathroom and shower room for the residents to share. There are 3 individual shower stalls (with changing stalls) and 1 bathtub stall in each shower room. The residents are provided with a microwave, utility sink, washing machine, and dryer on their floor. The hallways have ceiling fans to assist in cooling the floor.

Each room in Dearmont is designed to house two students. Rooms are 11' wide, 16' in length, with 8' ceilings. There are two twin beds, two desks and chairs, and two closets per room. A sink and 6-drawer chest are also provided. Rooms are equipped with cable TV, one phone line, and a LAN (Local Area Network) port for each resident of the room.  Please refer to the Resident Handbook to learn more about items that are permitted in the rooms.
