Southeast Missouri State University

Admissions

Most regularly-admitted Southeast students can take online courses through Southeast Online.  New first-time freshmen are not permitted to enroll for online courses until their second semester, a precaution that allows students to adjust to the increased academic rigor of university classes before attempting an online course. Students restricted to a particular campus location may enroll for online courses once the restriction is removed.  Eligible students are strongly encouraged to register on their priority registration date as online courses often fill quickly due to popular demand.

Current Southeast students need no additional admission information to enroll for online courses.  All other students must apply for admission following the process appropriate to their status:

Beginning Freshman = has no prior college attendance beyond high school graduation
Transfer Student = has previous college attendance at another institution (not including dual or early college credit courses) and has not attended Southeast previously

Returning Student = has previously attended Southeast (not including dual or early college credit courses) and may or may not have additional transfer credit

Graduate Student = has completed a degree previously and desires to take graduate level coursework
(Note: Students with a prior undergraduate degree who desire to take additional undergraduate courses should apply as second-degree students using the returning student or transfer student classification as appropriate.)

Visiting Student = is actively attending another institution and plans to transfer the course(s) back to that institution, is not pursuing a program at Southeast
(Note: Students using this option are not eligible for financial aid through Southeast and may not be classified as visiting for consecutive semesters.)

Dual Credit Student = contact high school counselor for more information

Full information on each admission process is available via the Office of Admissions website.
