To keep you safe and crime low on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University, the Department of Public Safety offers the following services:
- University Police
- Student Watch and Escort Service (S.W.E.S.)
- Lighted Corridor and Emergency Call Boxes
- Outdoor Siren System
The University Police Department provides police services 24 hours a day. The Officers are fully certified as Peace Officers and meet state mandated Police Officer standards and training required by the revised statues of Missouri. In an emergency, dial 911. If you have a problem that is not an emergency, call (573) 651-2215. For more information on the University Police Department, visit http://www5.semo.edu/dps/UniversityPolice/.
Southeast has established a Lighted Corridor running from the southern most section of campus to the Show Me Center. In addition, there are approximately 30 Emergency Call Boxes along the Lighted Corridor and other locations around campus. Anyone with a genuine emergency may utilize the call boxes by pressing the red “HELP” button on the call box. For more information on the University’s Lighted Corridor and Emergency Call Boxes, visit http://www5.semo.edu/dps/UniversityPolice/protection.asp#lcecb.
To notify you of tornado warnings or building evacuations, the University has installed the Outdoor Siren System. This system is tested the first Wednesday of every month. A three-minute steady sound indicates a tornado has been spotted in the area and you should seek shelter. A three-minute repeated broken tone means you should evacuate the building.
