Next week, GSI will host some of the best and brightest from Southeast Missouri State University for the Third Annual SEMO Global Trends Seminar. I attended last year as a junior and participated in a four day whirlwind of speakers and simulations. This year I am an intern at GSI and will be helping out with the activities.

Next week’s seminar is shaping up to be even better than the last. At event, students will learn about the Seven Revolutions studied at GSI and hear from top experts on various international topics. The students will then participate in a policy simulation on Thursday. There, the students will make policy recommendations to a panel playing the parts of President Obama and his staff. The students will formulate their proposals based on the real world briefings they received throughout the week.

As part of last year’s group, I discovered a lot about the challenges facing not only our nation, but the rest of the world as well. This seminar fits perfectly with Southeast’s University Studies’ program objectives and gives the students the opportunity to interact with each other and professionals on a level not available in many classrooms. I look forward to learning with my fellow students outside of the classroom next week.
