The University Police Department is located at 1401 N. Sprigg St. on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

The University Police Department is open 24 hours a day, providing police services seven days a week. The Police Department operates three shifts, working both foot patrols and vehicle patrols throughout campus. The Department operates a 24-hour Communication Unit. A communication officer receives all incoming telephone calls and coordinates all radio traffic. The communication unit dispatches police officers to locations on campus to answer calls for service and to personally meet with victims to make reports of crime.

All University Police Officers are armed and empowered to make arrest by both state and city Police Commissions. The State Police Commission provides University Police Officers with jurisdiction on any real property owned or operated by the University. The City Police Commission extends the police authority beyond campus to the city limits of Cape Girardeau.

The University Police Department employees 16 full-time commissioned Police Officers. The Officers are all fully certified as Peace Officers and meet state mandated Police Officer standards and training as required by the revised statutes of Missouri. University Police Officers meet the same certifications as other Law Enforcement Officers in the state of Missouri.
