F: Guidelines for Dual Credit Mathematics and Testing Requirements

Math Placement Criteria

Dual Credit students seeking to take MA 133: Plane Trigonometry, MA 134: College Algebra, or MA 135: College Algebra and Trigonometry must meet the following prerequisites:

  1. two years of high school algebra,
  2. one year of high school geometry, and
  3. an ACT Math score of 21 or above or a score of 14 or better on the placement test.

Dual credit students seeking to take MA 140: Analytic Geometry and Calculus I must meet the following prerequisites:

  1. two years of high school algebra,
  2. one year of high school geometry,
  3. one year of high school pre-calculus, and
  4. an ACT Math score of 21 or above or a score of 18 on the placement test for calculus.

Exceptions

  1. Students who successfully complete MA 134: College Algebra and MA 133: Plane Trigonometry with a grade of C or better in each course or who successfully complete MA 135: College Algebra and Trigonometry with a grade of C or better in a dual credit program or as a dually enrolled student at Southeast or at a Southeast off-campus center are eligible for MA 140: Analytic Geometry and Calculus I without further placement testing or ACT scores.
  2. All other exceptions are granted on an individual student basis with the concurrence of the Department of Mathematics and the student's high school dual credit administrator and Mathematics teacher.
