Math Placement Criteria
Dual Credit students seeking to take MA 133: Plane Trigonometry, MA 134: College Algebra, or MA 135: College Algebra and Trigonometry must meet the following prerequisites:
- two years of high school algebra,
- one year of high school geometry, and
- an ACT Math score of 21 or above or a score of 14 or better on the placement test.
Dual credit students seeking to take MA 140: Analytic Geometry and Calculus I must meet the following prerequisites:
- two years of high school algebra,
- one year of high school geometry,
- one year of high school pre-calculus, and
- an ACT Math score of 21 or above or a score of 18 on the placement test for calculus.
Exceptions
- Students who successfully complete MA 134: College Algebra and MA 133: Plane Trigonometry with a grade of C or better in each course or who successfully complete MA 135: College Algebra and Trigonometry with a grade of C or better in a dual credit program or as a dually enrolled student at Southeast or at a Southeast off-campus center are eligible for MA 140: Analytic Geometry and Calculus I without further placement testing or ACT scores.
- All other exceptions are granted on an individual student basis with the concurrence of the Department of Mathematics and the student's high school dual credit administrator and Mathematics teacher.
