Title of Course:  Economics Seminar

 

         I.      Catalog Description and Credit Hours of Course

 

Assigned readings and a paper designed around a specific economic issue.  Intended to integrate economic analysis and reasoning from both macro and microeconomic perspectives.  1 credit hour.

 

       II.      Co-requisites/Prerequisite(s)

 

EC410  Macroeconomic Theory

EC420  Microeconomic Theory

 

Prerequisite(s):

 

   Senior Standing

   Declared Economics major or minor

 

      III.      Purposes or Objectives of the Course

 

The purpose(s) of the course are:

 

1.       to assist the student in integrating economic analysis and reasoning around current economic topics.

2.       to assist the student in the transition from undergraduate status to the world of work and/or graduate study.

3.       to allow the opportunity for assessment of the quality of the students' achievement.

 

    IV.      Expectations of Students

 

The average student should plan to spend two hours on outside preparation for each hour of class.  Each student is expected to participate in class discussion.  Reading assignments are to be completed by the assigned date.  Each student will write analyses of articles from a variety of sources.

   VII.      Basis of Student Evaluation

 

Students will be evaluated according to the quality of their written work, on the quality of the presentation, and on class participation in discussion and activities.  Students are required to complete the MFAT in Economics examination.
