  • Log in to Chalk & Wire.
  • Click on the "My Assessments" tab on top of the page.
  • Click on the "My Student Groups" tab.
  • Click the "Add new student group" link.
  • On the "Add Student Group" screen, in the "Name" field, name the group with your class number and section separated by a dash and the semester (e.g., "SE200-70 Fall 2009").
  • Under "Sources," click on "Teacher Work Sample" (or the appropriate department for your students, if they are not completing the TWS).
  • Under "Members," click on the first letter of your first student’s last name.
  • You should see a list of students whose last names start with that letter. Find the name of the student you want to add, then left-click and hold to drag the student’s name from the "Members" column to the "Current List" column.
  • Repeat these steps until all of the students have been added and appear under "Current List."
  • Once all of your students have been selected, click on the "Save" button in the top right corner; you should see a message that says "Group has been saved."
  • Click on the "My Assessments" tab on top of the page.
  • Under "My Student Groups," find the group you created above, then click on the "Show Students" link.
  • On the "Results" page, click on "Enter Assessments Manually" at the top right of the screen.
  • On the "Manual Assessment Entry" page, under "Department" select the "Teacher Work Sample" option from the dropdown list.
  • Under "Rubric," select the appropriate rubric from the dropdown list - #221 (Block II, III, and IV Teacher Candidate Assessment of Dispositions), #154 (Block II Field Block Rubric), or #222 (Block III Field Block Rubric).
  • Click on the "Continue" button.
  • Click on the name of the student you want to score.
  • Score the student using the dropdown menus and the "Comments" box for each criterion.
    NOTE: You can use the "Tab" key to advance the cursor to the next field.
  • The system will save automatically as you work through the rubric for each student. When you have completed the rubric for a single student, you can click on "Next student" (at the top or bottom of each page); the system should return a message saying "[student name] has been saved" and move to the next student to assess.
  • Repeat this process for each student, until all assessments have been completed.If you need to stop in the middle of a batch of manual assessments, you can click either "Save Entire Batch (for completion later)" or "Save Only Marked Students" (at the top and bottom of the page).
    oIf you select "Save Entire Batch (for completion later)," you should get a message that reads, "Save was successful." When you are ready to complete the assessments, return to the "My Assessments" tab at the top of the screen, select the "My Assessments" tab in the middle of the screen, and then use the drop-down menu to select "Complete" to finish the assessment for the appropriate student.
    oIf you select "Save Only Marked Students," you should get a message that reads, "Save was successful. Unmarked assessments have been deleted."
  • When finished scoring all the students, you can log out of the system.
