First Year Student Scholarships

EB020. ESTHER BATTEN ENDOWED. Open to students enrolled in a course of study leading to a degree in Education with a major in Elementary Education. Preference for this scholarship will be given to an entering freshman who is a graduate of the Mehlville School District. Preference will also be given to students who attended Bernard Elementary School. The applicant must show financial need. The recipient can renew the scholarship if he or she maintains a 3.0 GPA and reapplies each year. Deadline is March 1.

 EB031. MARY MARGARET CROLE BILLINGHAM ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP. To be awarded to a student majoring in and/or seeking a degree in teaching at any grade level, regardless of whether the student’s interest is teaching at the preschool level, kindergarten through senior year of high school, post secondary schooling in a college university, trade school or like educational institutions. Award is based upon the financial need of the student and/or the academic achievements of the student at the University and can be renewed yearly for a total of 8 semesters. Deadline is March 1.

EB032. BOLLINGER-MAYFIELD ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP. First preference will be given to Elementary Education majors with a minimum 3.0 GPA from the Marble Hill area with financial need. Second preference will be given to students who meet at least one of these qualifications. If there are no applicants meeting any of these preferences, the award will be given to students from the Southeast Missouri region enrolled in the College of Education. Deadline is March 1.

EB035. ROBERT AND LINDA BURNS SCHOLARSHIP. Awarded to an English major. First preference is for an English education major who is a graduate of Butterfield Youth Services Organization, second preference for an English education major, third preference is for a graduate of Butterfield Youth Services, and fourth preference is for an English major. Deadline is March 1.

 

EC009. CHARLESTON, MISSOURI, EDUCATION FUND. Open to Charleston High School graduates who are majoring in Education. Financial need is a determining factor. Two awards are given annually. Award is renewable with a 2.25 GPA. Deadline is March 1.

EC044.  FLETCHER O. CHASTEEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND.  First preference will be given to a descendant of Fletcher O. Chasteen, with second preference awarded to a graduate of the Zalma, Puxico or Bloomfield high schools and third preference given to an Education major.  Deadline is March 1.

ED010. CLARENCE AND VIRGINIA DESPAIN. Available to freshmen form Madison and Wayne Counties in Missouri.  Applicant should have strong interest in teacher education, have a minimum 3.25 high school GPA, and meet criteria for admission into the teacher education program.  Deadline is March 1.

ED017. JAMES M. DRICKEY ENDOWED. Applicant must be an Elementary Education major or a Psychology major. Deadline is March 1.

EF007. WALTER H. "DOC" FORD MEMORIAL.

Open to students majoring in Economics, Political Science, or Education. Applicant must have a "B" average. Award will be renewable for a maximum of 2 academic years. If an applicant meets the above criteria and is also a basketball player (men's or women's team), preference on selection will be given to a basketball player. Also, applicant must show evidence of financial need. Deadline is March 1.

EF014. ROBERT W. AND WILMA C. FOSTER. Open to students who intend to become teachers. Priority will be given to a minority candidate. If no minority candidate applies or is qualified, the scholarship will be awarded based on demonstrated need and potential to be a successful teacher. Scholarship is renewable provided satisfactory progress is made toward admission (or if admitted, upon retention) into the teacher education program. Deadline is March 1.

EF018. GLENN W. FRANCIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. Awarded to an Education major from Bollinger County with a minimum 2.75 GPA and financial need. First preference will be given to student preparing for BS in Education in Industrial Technology, with a second preference to student preparing for a BS in Special Education. Preference will be also given to descendants of William Lorance and Emma Elizabeth Patterson Francis regardless of county or state of residence. Deadline is March 1.

EF010. FRANKLIN COUNTY/PAUL COPELAND. Open to students from Union R-II School District in Missouri.  Must be in upper third of graduating class, have financial need, and be an Education major.  Deadline is March 1.

EG003. R. MELVIN GATELEY. Open to Education majors from Cape Girardeau County with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Deadline is March 1.

EG026. ALICE L. GRANT SCHOLARSHIP FUND. Awarded to student(s) majoring in an English Education curriculum. Deadline is March 1.

EH002. MR. AND MRS. EDWARD C. HALL.Open to students pursuing a B.S. in Education or aspiring to enter the teaching profession. Entering freshmen must rank on or above the 50th percentile on a University admissions test and in the upper one-half of their high school class. University students must have a 2.0 GPA. One award goes to a graduate of Lafayette or Eureka High School. Deadline is March 1.

EH007. STEPHEN L. HARRIS ATHLETIC. Open to Southeast student athletes. Preference will be given to athletes majoring in education. Deadline is March 1.

EL017. ALTA CRITES LUCY. Open to beginning freshmen who are in the upper one-fourth of their high school class and rank at or above the 75th percentile on the University admissions test. Applicants must be entering the Teacher Education program. Preference will be given to students with financial need. Renewable with a 2.5 GPA. Deadline is March 1.

EP006. PERRY-STE. GENEVIEVE/ROSINA KOETTING. Open to students form Ste. Genevieve or Perry Counties.  Must be a physical education major with preference to female students.  Deadline is March 1.

ES028. TONY E. AND VIOLA STATLER. Applicant must be a graduate of a high school located in Scott, Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, or Mississippi County in Missouri and must be enrolled or plan to be enrolled in the College of Education full- or part-time. Deadline is March 1.

ET002. RUBYE HOWLETT THOMPSON MEMORIAL. Open to graduates of any Mississippi County high school who are majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education. Applicants must have interest in, or intent to enter, the Teacher Education program, and must have a FAFSA on file. Academic excellence is a factor. Deadline is March 1.

EW022. WALTER D. WEBB SCHOLARSHIP FUND. Awarded to an Education major with a first preference for Shannon County, Missouri, and second preference for State of Missouri. Applicants will also need to outline community service projects on the application form. Deadline is March 1.

EW003. JEAN WEINGAETNER. Open to Education majors. If none apply, scholarship is open to other majors. Deadline is March 1.

EW009. GRACE N. WILLIAMS SCHOLARSHIP FOR THOSE MAJORING IN MATHEMATICS. Open to students with financial need pursuing a degree in Education with a major in Math. Preference will be given to applicants in the field of Secondary Education. Deadline is March 1.

Continuing, Graduate & Transfer Student Scholarships

ALPHA DELTA KAPPA - ALPHA TAU CHAPTER. Open to freshmen or sophomores in the field of Education. Freshmen must rank in the upper one-third of their high school class and score in the top one-third on standardized tests. Sophomores must have at least 30 credit hours completed with a 2.5 GPA. Applicant must submit with application a list of three persons (i.e. principal, teacher, pastor, etc.) who may be contacted who will supply references. A committee from Alpha Delta Kappa will select the recipient.Recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA to renew. This scholarship requires a separate application available in Student Financial Services. The completed form should be returned to this office.Deadline is October 1.

ALPHA DELTA KAPPA - BETA LAMBDA CHAPTER. This is a $500 fall semester scholarship for an Education major. Applicants must be completing their junior year and apply the scholarship toward their senior year. A 2.75 GPA is required. Preference will be given to residents of Perry County, but residence is not a requirement. This scholarship requires a separate application available in Student Financial Services. The completed form should be returned to this office.Deadline is April 1.

Applicant must have potential promise as a teacher (recommendations from Block III Southeast coordinator and field supervisor must be attached to application). Preference will be given to applicants from St. Louis County or Jefferson County. Deadline is March 1.

ED015. ZORA AND JERLINE DOSSETT MEMORIAL. Open to students majoring in Elementary Education who are enrolled in their last semester (or senior year of their four years) and who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Deadline is March 1.

EJ004. BEATRICE AND RUSSELL JOHNSON ENDOWED. Open to graduate students in the College of Education who are pursuing a Masters in Exceptional Child.  Both academic performance and financial need will be considered.  Deadline is March 1.

EK014. BOB KEATHLEY SCHOLARSHIP.  Awarded to a faculty member of the Bernie School System who is working toward his/her Master's or Specialist degree in the College of Education.  Deadline is March 1.

EK016. LUTHER A. KING ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP. Recipient must be an undergraduate Education major, state of Missouri resident and have a 3.0 GPA. Financial need is considered but not required.  Deadline is March 1.

EL003. THE JOHN T. & GEORGIA LEE LAWRENCE FUND. Open to graduate students in Education.  Applicant must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.25 and be recommended by a member of the Education faculty.  Awarded to either a full-time student (at $1000) or to a student enrolled for a minimum of 6 hours ($500).  Deadline is March 1.

EM001. ALBERT H. AND DOROTHY E. MACKE. Preference will be given to descendants of Albert and Dorothy Macke. If related, applicant must state relationship on the application. If there is no descendant, the scholarship is available to undergraduate Education majors who are completing their full-time semester-long student teaching experience, typically in senior year. Awards will be for one semester only with no restrictions on use of funds. Deadline is March 1.

EM014. BLANCHE CLINE MERWIN FUND. Open to financially needy women with a minimum of 96 credit hours completed who plan to teach and who are pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in Education. Deadline is March 1.

EM034. ALICE KAY MOUSER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. Recipient will be attending Southeast Missouri State University with a GPA of 3.0 and majoring in Elementary Education. Financial need will be considered but not required. First preference is given to those Elementary Education majors with an emphasis in Reading.  Deadline is March 1.

EO005. BILLIE O'NEAL. Open to students who major in Physical Education, have completed 60 credit hours with a minimum overall 2.5 GPA and a 3.0 GPA in their major courses, and have a minimum ACT score of 20. A letter of recommendation from a Southeast Missouri State University faculty member must be submitted with the application. Financial need is a consideration. Deadline is March 1.

EP013. LEE PARK SCHOLARSHIP. Available to a students majoring in Physical Education who have completed 30 credit hours with an overall 3.0 GPA and who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who have a martial arts background and who are active in student/professional physical education organizations. Deadline is March 1.

EP006. PERRY-STE. GENEVIEVE/ROSINA KOETTING.Open to Physical Education majors from Ste. Genevieve or Perry Counties. Preference will be given to female students. Deadline is March 1.

ER001. MARLIN AND RUTH (EVENS) REMLEY AND LOUISE REMLEY (EDUCATION). Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA, be of sophomore standing at time the scholarship is awarded, and be a full-time undergraduate student (minimum of 12 hours per semester) majoring in the College of Education.  Deadline is March 1.

ES009. MARK F. SCULLY. Open to students interested in Education. Financial need is a consideration. Deadline is March 1.

ES010. OTTO AND DELLA SEABAUGH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION.Open to students in their junior or senior year at Southeast who are majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education.  Applicant must be a graduate of Cape or Bollinger County and live in the county at the time the scholarship is granted.  Applicant must maintain a 3.5 GPA, be making satisfactory progress toward his or her degree, and demonstrate financial need. Deadline is March 1.

ES040. THE JOHN & ANN SHELTON MUSIC EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPAwarded to a student with a declared Music Education major, that has either been admitted to the Teacher Education program or is in his/her 2nd semester of the sophomore year.  Deadline is March 1.

ES028. TONY E. AND VIOLA STATLER. Applicant must be a graduate of a high school located in Scott, Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, or Mississippi County in Missouri and must be enrolled or plan to enroll in full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate classes at Southeast in the College of Education. Deadline is March 1.

ES029. JOHN & PATRICIA KRIEGER STEHR SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT. Awarded to a graduate student in Dept. of Elementary, Early & Special Education who is studying in field of Early Literacy. This may include students in the Reading Recovery program, or an early literacy course and/or practicum. The individual must have had an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 and recommendation by a member of the faculty of education. Note: If deemed appropriate by the Dean of the College of Education and the Chair of the Dept. of Elementary, Early and Special Education, all or a portion of the monies available in an academic year may be used to fund a graduate assistant who would work in the area of Early Literacy. Deadline is March 1.

ES031. THELMA AND PAUL H. STURGEON. Open to students who have been accepted into the Teacher Education program, earned 60 credit hours, maintained at least a 2.5 GPA, demonstrated promise as a teacher, and exhibited a genuine concern for children. Applicant must have two professors in Teacher Education write nomination letters which should refer primarily to the student's promise as a teacher and to the student's genuine concern for children. Letters should be attached to the application or sent directly to Student Financial Services by the application deadline. Preference will be given to applicants already enrolled at Southeast. Repayment to the scholarship fund is encouraged. Deadline is March 1.
