“The most rewarding part of my job is helping struggling students succeed.”

These words from Phil Milligan illustrate his passion for the field of education.  Milligan, a 1983 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, is the assistant principal at Bryan Middle School in the Francis Howell School District in St. Charles, Mo.

Milligan earned a degree in music education from Southeast, and he enjoyed the field of education so much, he decided to make his career in educational administration.  He went on to earn two master’s degrees and a specialist degree.

Milligan says he had some great teachers and role models at Southeast; the most notable of which was Dr. Robert Gifford.

“I also created bonds with other students that remain today,” he says.

Milligan adds that his secret to success is very simple:  “I have worked hard at anything I attempted and when possible, I ignore the difficulties I have faced.”

Milligan resides in Eureka, Mo with his wife and two daughters.  In addition to his musical interests, he also greatly enjoys bicycling and competing in triathlons in his spare time.
