Welcome to the website for the Department of Educational Leadership & Counseling at Southeast Missouri State University.

We are an all-graduate department serving the professional educator. The programs of the department are:

Counseling

Mental Health counseling (accredited by CACREP)
School Counseling (accredited by CACREP, NCATE and DESE)
Psychological Examiner Program (DESE approved)

Teacher Leadership

Master Degree in Teacher Leadership (promotes quality teacher leaders)
Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership Development (promotes quality teacher leaders)

School Administration

Master Degree (leads to Principal certification, NCATE, ELCC, DESE approved)
Master Degree in Higher Education (preparation for college or university level)
Specialist Degree (leads to educational leadership at the central office level, Superintendent/central office certification and building level, Career Principal certification)


In addition to our graduate programs, a student also can obtain a doctoral degree in Leadership through a cooperative program with the University of Missouri online.

Many of the degrees offered lead to certifications in school administration.  The Educational Leadership degrees are accredited by :

  • National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)
  • Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC)
  • Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)

Counseling Programs are accredited by:

  • Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP)
