Before registering for Block II students must have successfully completed the requirements for teacher candidacy and been recommended by the Committee on Admission to and Retention in Teacher Education Program (CARTEP) and approved by the college. Block II is the second professional education semester in the teacher education program. Teacher candidates enrolled in this block have completed one field experience, which consisted primarily of observations of students in real classroom settings. Block II is the first "hands on" instructional experience and is designed to continue a gradual, systematic exposure to the role of a teacher.

Teacher candidates in this block are enrolled in coursework involving techniques of teaching reading, language arts and learning theory-classroom management. They are required to spend a minimum of 68 hours during the semester in a 1-6 classroom setting. During the semester, they teach a minimum of 3 lessons in reading, language arts, and children's literature. Lessons are designed and taught under the supervision of both the cooperating and supervising Block II teachers. When teacher candidates are not teaching group lessons or providing individual instruction they participate in other activities or duties as the co-operating and supervising teacher deem appropriate.
