In Block IV- By the time students begin their student teaching they have spent over 180 hours in a 1-6 grade classroom with an appropriately certified and experienced teacher. Teacher candidates in Block IV teach sixteen (16) weeks in two different districts, in one upper and one lower grade level for an elementary certification area. During the first half, the teacher candidate is expected to demonstrate competencies in the areas of Instructional Strategies, Motivation and Management, Communication Skills, and Assessment. The second half is an intensive professional practicum requiring demonstration of competency in the areas mentioned above.
