The Subject Assessments are designed by Educational Testing Service (ETS) to assess your knowledge of the subject area you plan to teach. They are a part of the licensing procedure in Missouri. The subject tests assess your knowledge of the actual content you hope to be licensed to teach. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Missouri has adopted The Praxis Series tests because it wants to be certain that you have achieved a specific level of mastery of your subject area before it grants you a license to teach in a classroom. The tests do not measure your actual teaching ability. They measure your knowledge of your subject and how to teach it.
You should take the exam during your last Block prior to student teaching. The test is given 2-3 times a semester and during the summer. If you need to re-take this exam, you will still have a chance to do that during your student teaching semester. You will have the best chance at passing the test if you have completed the course work you are being tested on - this is after all Blocks, but before Student Teaching.
Effective the summer of 2007, there is no longer walk-in registration for the Missouri Content Exam. You must register by the deadline listed on the ETS web site. Click here for the Educational Testing Service (ETS) schedule of exams.
It depends on your Degree (not your concentration).
