COUNSELING (Master and Specialist courses)

The program in counseling uses on-site, ITV and Web-based instruction to deliver all course work for the master's degree in the off-campus setting.  Individuals take two courses each semester, including the summers, to complete the required 42 to 48 semester hours in about three years.  Both the community counseling and school counseling options are available.  Admission to the community counseling track requires: 24 undergraduate hours in psychology or 30 hours of psychology and sociology.  Admission to the school counseling track requires teaching certification at the appropriate level or additional course work as prescribed by the academic department.

Cohort Modeling:  The counseling master's program is offered on a cohort model.  All students in a given cohort begin, track through and complete the curriculum cycle as an entity.  Admission after the beginning of a cohort cycle is not normally advised; however, interested individuals should contact the academic department to inquire about plans for future cohort groups.

The Malden/Kennett Cohort (began Spring 2003).  Courses alternate between the regional campuses at Malden and Kennett.  For information:  contact Southeast Missouri State University - Malden, Ms. Lisa Webb, Academic Coordinator, at (573) 276-4577; e-mail lwebb@semo.edu or Southeast Missouri State University - Kennett, Ms. Karen Tucker, Academic Advisor, at (573) 888-0513; e-mail ktucker@semo.edu.
