REVISION OF PROMOTION CALENDAR NOTIFICATION PROVISIONS

WHEREAS: The "Promotion Calendar" and "Promotion Procedures" sections of the Faculty Promotion Policy contain provisions that may appear to some to be inconsistent, and

WHEREAS: The Professional Affairs Committee of the Faculty Senate has studied the issue, has received input from the Deans and the Department Chairpersons, and has unanimously recommended the following revision,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: the Subsections 2, 6, and 9 of the "Promotion Procedures" section of the Faculty Promotion Policy be amended to read as follows:

2. The department chairperson is responsible for coordinating promotion procedures at the department level and for making a recommendation on promotion to the dean of the college. The material forwarded by the chairperson will include lists of favorable recommendations, unfavorable recommendations, and all supporting materials for each recommendation. The recommendation of the department chairperson will be forwarded to the dean along with the recommendation of the departmental promotion and tenure advisory committee.

6. The college dean is responsible for coordinating promotion procedures at the college level and for making recommendations on promotion to the chairperson of the University Promotion Advisory Committee. The material forwarded by the dean will include lists of both favorable recommendations and unfavorable recommendations with an indication of the level at which denials were made. The supporting material for all favorable recommendations will also be submitted. The recommendation of the dean will be forwarded along with the recommendation of the college promotion and tenure advisory committee. In making these recommendations, the dean will use the Promotion Recommendation Form.

9. The Provost is responsible for coordinating promotion procedures at the University level and for making recommendations on promotion to the President. The material forwarded by the Provost will include lists of favorable recommendations and unfavorable recommendations with an indication of the level at which any denials were made. The supporting material for all favorable recommendations will also be submitted. The recommendations of the Provost will be forwarded along with the recommendation of the University Promotion Advisory Committee. In making these recommendations, the Provost will use the Promotion Recommendation Form.
