BRIEF SUMMARY: This bill specifies the procedures portion of the existing Faculty Handbook section on Class Attendance (Chapter 3, Section C4), including new language for attendance verification and online courses.
REVISING “CLASS ATTENDANCE” TO ESTABLISH A PROCEDURES SECTION
BE IT RESOLVED THAT: subject to the passage and approval of both this bill and its companion bill establishing a corresponding “policy” section, Chapter 3, Section C4 of the Faculty Handbook be amended by replacing the existing content with the following “procedures” section (to follow the companion “policy” in the Handbook):
Class Attendance Procedures
Faculty will keep written records of course attendance. Financial Services may require last day of attendance from faculty members for students receiving certain types of federal funds. Faculty must be able to document last day of attendance, or last log-in for an online course.
A student who is absent from class during the first week of a course, or who has not logged into an online course, may be removed from the course through the online instructor initiated drop, unless notification by the student is provided to the course instructor by the end of the first week.
