Bill 12-A-27 - Revising "Incomplete Grades"' to establish a Procedures Section (Failed)
FACULTY SENATE SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY
FACULTY SENATE BILL 12-A-27
Approved by the Faculty Senate
April 11, 2012
BRIEF SUMMARY: This bill specifies the procedures portion of the existing Faculty Handbook section on Incomplete Grades (Chapter 3, Section C7).
REVISING “INCOMPLETE GRADES” TO ESTABLISH A PROCEDURES SECTION
BE IT RESOLVED THAT: subject to the passage and approval of both this bill and its companion bill establishing a corresponding “policy” section, Chapter 3, Section C7 of the Faculty Handbook be amended by replacing the existing content with the following “procedures” section (to follow the companion “policy” in the Handbook):
Incomplete Grades Procedures
The instructor must indicate to the student the requirements for completion of the course, normally prior to the submission of final grades. If the instructor approves the "I," requirements for completing the course will be specified in written form, such as a memo, indicating the student, the instructor, the semester, and the requirements for completion, with copies to the student and the department. The department office will retain a file with such written documentation for reference. Each college should develop procedures to monitor incompletes.
For undergraduates, the "I" must be removed during the next semester, exclusive of the summer session, or a grade of ‘F’ will be recorded. Students should not reenroll in courses in which they have received an ‘I’ grade.
For graduate students, the “I” must be removed within one year unless an extension has been granted by the faculty member with the concurrence of the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies. Incompletes not removed within one year will be converted to a grade of “F.”
