MINUTES OF THE FACULTY SENATE MEETING
April 28, 2004
The Faculty Senate of Southeast Missouri State University met on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in the Missouriana Room of the University Center. The following Senators were present: Paul Lloyd (presiding), Susan Swartwout, Rusty Curtis, Rick Althaus, Jim Champine, Ronald Clayton, Michael Cobb, Dan Dunavan, Bruce Hathaway, Linda Heitman, Arrick Jackson, Ted Loso, Anne Marietta, Bruce Mims, David Naugler, James Ricks, Craig Roberts, Nicholas Tibbs, Mohan Tikoo, Larry Underberg, and Min Zou. Provost Stephens and Senate Secretary Paula Cunningham were also present.
Absent, and not represented by their Alternates, were Warren Anderson, Mary Ann DeLine, Craig Elder, Kathy Gilliland, Al Hayward, Cheryl Milde, James Ricks, and Terry Sutton.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
The minutes of April 21, 2004 (Vol. XXXVIII, No. 15), were approved with editorial changes.
REPORT FROM THE CHAIR
On behalf of the Faculty Senate, Senator Marietta presented a gift to Paula Cunningham, Faculty Senate Secretary, in recognition of her service. The gift was a beautiful Danbury clock. Paula thanked the Senate for the clock and also expressed her appreciation for the help and consideration the Senate has given her this year.
Certificates of Appreciation for serving on the Faculty Senate were presented to Senators David Bibb, Dalton Curtis, Roy Farris, Al Hayward, Amy Kephart, Paul Lloyd, Ted Loso, Anne Marietta, Craig Roberts, and Nicholas Tibbs. A certificate will be given to Senator James Ricks and Dr. Michael Best also.
Chair Lloyd distributed a copy of the Chair’s year-end report. He highlighted the accomplishments the Faculty Senate has made during these difficult times. His report will be listed on the Faculty Senate webpage. The report will also be in the Faculty Senate office.
REPORT FROM THE ADMINISTRATIVE LIAISON
Provost Stephens stated that this has been a very difficult year for all of us. The Senate has had a very good year.
Senator Tikoo, chair of the Committee, distributed copies of the Academic Affairs year-end report. For more information, the report is on the Faculty Senate webpage. A copy of the report will be in the Faculty Senate office.
Senator Tibbs, chair of the Committee, distributed copies of the compensation Committee’s year-end report. A copy of the committee’s report will be on the Faculty Senate webpage and in the Faculty Senate office. The Budget Review Committee marathon meeting will be Friday, May 7.
Senator Marietta, chair of the Committee, reported that the committee had been very busy this past year. All the Faculty Senate records are now in Kent Library and the Faculty Handbook has been updated. A copy of the Committees year-end report is on the Faculty Senate webpage and a copy will also be in the Faculty Senate office.
Senator Roberts, chair of the Committee, distributed copies of the Governance Committee’s report. The report will be found on the Faculty Senate webpage and in the Faculty Senate office.
Grants, Research Funding Committee
Dr. Snell, chair of the Committee, reported on the funding made by the Committee.

Johnson Faculty Centre
Senator Swartwout, chair of the Committee, reported that the Centre is being used and the suites are full nearly every night. The Ad Hoc Committee, chaired by Dr. Dieter Jedan, has started their work to see if there is interest on campus for having a Faculty Club.
Senator Althaus, chair of the Committee, distributed a copy of the committee’s year-end report. A copy of the report will be found on the Faculty Senate webpage and in the Faculty Senate office.
Pursuant to a recommendation by the Governance Committee, the Senate executives met and have addressed all three of the recommendations. 1. The documentation has been accepted by the Faculty Senate executive committee. 2. The Senate Executive Committee has endorsed the Report of the Grievance Committee and is forwarding it to President Dobbins, as the appropriate decision maker. 3. The reporting of steps 1 and 2 have been completed at this meeting.
There being no other business, Chair Lloyd thanked the Senators for all their hard work this year and this year’s Faculty Senate came to a close at 3:45 p.m.
