MINUTES OF THE FACULTY SENATE MEETING
May 4, 2011
The Faculty Senate of Southeast Missouri State University met on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, in the Missouriana Room of the University Center. Attending were: Kevin Dickson (Chair), Janice Ward (Chair-elect), Diane Wood (Membership Chair), Rick Althaus, Larry Bohannon, Brandon Christensen, Eric Clements, Desma Reno, Don Jung, Debra Lee-DiStefano, Charles McAllister, Marcus Bond, Phil Nacy, Tiffany Parker, Jian Peng, David Powell, Willie Redmond, Joyce Renaud, Claudia Ruediger, Sophia Scott, Doug Atwood, Julie Weathers, Carol Veneziano, Janice Ward, Victor Wilburn, Diane Wood and Chris Wubbena.
Absent and not represented by an alternate were Stephanie Chamberlain, Ziping Liu, Seidu Sofo, Larry Underberg and Candide Walton.
Chair Dickson started by letting the Faculty Senate know that he believed that the past year of Senate had great success and allowed the Faculty voice to be heard on many important issues in fulfilling the Senate’s role as representative of the faculty voice. He let everyone know that he is looking forward to working with Chair-Elect Janice Ward and Membership Chair Diane Wood in the upcoming year. Chair Dickson pointed out that the Faculty Senate will continue to work on updating the Faculty Handbook including the issues that the Chairs of the different legislative committees have pointed out; those issues will move forward to next years senate. He also looks forward to continuing to strengthen the relationships between the Senate and other groups and individuals on campus.
Chair Dickson let the Faculty Senate members know that they would be receiving an e-mail asking for their Legislative Committee preferences. Chair Dickson encouraged them to send in their preferences as soon as possible to facilitate committee membership selection. Once the Executive Committee receives preferences they will put together the Legislative Committee Membership and let the faculty know during the first meeting of the Faculty Senate.
A motion to adjourn was made at 4:36 p.m. by Senator Redmond and seconded by Senator Althaus.
