MINUTES OF THE FACULTY SENATE MEETING
November 14, 2012
The Faculty Senate of Southeast Missouri State University met on Wednesday November 14, 2012, in the UC Ballroom B. The following Senators were present: Rick Althaus, Doug Atwood, Larry Bohannon, Marcus Bond, Stephanie Chamberlain, Brandon Christensen, Eric Clements, Kevin Dickson, Debra Lee-DiStefano, Jeff Luetkenhaus, Charles McAllister, Tiffany Parker, Jian Peng, David Powell, Willie, Redmond, Joyce Renaud, Desma Reno, Claudia Ruediger, Larry Underberg, Carol Veneziano, Candide Walton, Janice Ward, Susan Wehring, Victor Wilburn, and Chris Wubbena. The Provost Ron Rosati was also in attendance. The following alternates were present: Ann White and David Naugler. Student Government Liaison Bethany Rosenthal was also present. Not in attendance or represented by an alternate were Sophia Scott, Julie Weathers, and Diane Wood.
The minutes for October 31, 2012(47.7) were approved.
No new business
Senator McAllister moved to remove version 6 of the SEI bill and replace it with version
7. Senator Peng seconded. Senator Dickson introduced small amendments to the bill.
Discussion took place about the amendments presented.
Senator Atwood moved to amend lines 18-23 and 53-64 removed. Senate voted and amendment failed. Senator Chamberlain also moved to remove the lines and the percentile from the bill. It was not seconded, amendment failed.
Senator Redmond moved to propose Senator Dickson's amendment. Senator Dickson seconded. The Senate voted. The amendment passed. Senator Redmond moved to amend the word “requires” on line 9 to the word “suggest”. Senator Atwood seconded. Senator Wilburn moved to vote on Senator Redmond's amendment. The Senate voted. The amendment passed. Discussion continued to discuss the SEI bill with the two amendments added. The Senate voted on the bill with the amendments. The SEI bill 12-A-34 passed with 15 votes for and 11 votes against.
Chair Ward had no report.
The Provost discussed the safety issues. There will be a group that will take recommendations concerning safety initiatives on campus. He informed the Senate a consultant will be hired to make recommendations to the budget review committee. The budget committee will then take this forward to the Board of Regents.
Provost Rosati also informed the Senate that there are interviews set up for the position of the HHS Dean. The Senate discussed the interview dates with the Provost. ABET came to review Computer Science and the visit was very successful. He informed the Senate the that the Lift for Life charter school's renewal application has been submitted to DESE.
Bethany Rosenthal informed the Senate the ALICE Training will start after Thanksgiving break.

Professional Affairs- Senator Althaus discussed the SEI issues with the committee. The committee talked about the definition of faculty RNTT and TT. They also discussed the faculty status of the IEP.

Senator Naugler moved to adjourn. Senator Dickson seconded. Senate adjourned at 4:21pm.
The next Faculty Senate meeting will be held on November 28, 2012 at 3:00 pm in the UC Missouriana/Redhawks Room.
