Minutes - May 7, 1997
The Faculty Senate reconvened at 3:00 p.m. in the Party Room of the University Center. The following Senators were present: Althaus, Baldwin, Blattner, Cannon, Carder, S. Cwick, Dillon, Domazlicky, Dunning, Eddleman, Farris, Gathman, Gong, Johnson, Kelley, Kump, Laudie, McCutchan, McGhie, McKee, Naugler, Parsons, Polllina, Puryear, Reagan-Woodard, Schulte, Skelton, Transeau and Wilson. Alternate Gerald Stott attended for H. Max Drake. Also attending was President Nitzschke, Provost Kupchella, and Student Government Representative Tom Tomlinson.
Report from the Chair
Chair Naugler reported that during the time the Senate was in recess, the Senate electronically approved two bills. One was Emeritus Status and the other was giving Emeritus designation for a member of the Art Department. (See Addendums A & B)
President Nitzschke and Provost Kupchella stopped on their way to a meeting in Sikeston. President Nitzschke thanked the Faculty Senate for all the work they had done during first year as President. On behalf of the President and Provost the President presented Chair Naugler with a clock for his leadership as Chair of the Faculty Senate.
To ensure that the Professional Affairs proposed bill was dealt with the Chair asked if anyone had any objections to discussing it now. No one had any objections. Senator Johnson distributed copies of a report and proposed bill they recommend from the Professional Affairs Committee regarding Part-Time faculty. Senator Johnson moved that the bill be approved. Senator McGhie seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Senator McGhie called the question. By a voice vote, the bill was passed with one No vote cast. (See Addendum C)
Grants & Research Funding
Chair Naugler had received a report from Dr. Peter Gordon saying that all the money available had been granted.
Senator Farris, Membership Chair, reported that the following are the only nominees for Senator: Kevin Anderson (Elementary, Early & Special Education), Bob Willingham (Kent Library), Fred Yeo (Secondary Education) Kenneth Lancaster (Social Work). Each is therefore declared the Senator from his/her department. Cynthia App will serve as Tamara Baldwin’s Alternate, Kathy Conway will serve as Ann Gifford’s Alternate, Carl Pracht will serve as Bob Willingham’s Alternate, and Rebecca Hines will serve as Fred Yeo’s Alternate. Senator Farris distributed copies of the new Faculty Senate members.
Senator Parsons, Compensation Chair, discussed the meeting they had on Tuesday that lasted until midnight.
Several Senators suggested topics to be discussed in the 1997-98 Senate.
Senator Skelton discussed the way any company can get the telephone numbers of anyone on campus.
