MINUTES OF THE FACULTY SENATE MEETING
March 13, 2013
The Faculty Senate of Southeast Missouri State University met on Wednesday March 13, 2013, in the UC Missouriana/Redhawks Room. The following Senators were present: Rick Althaus, Marcus Bond, Stephanie Chamberlain, Brandon Christensen, Eric Clements, Kevin Dickson, Don Jung, Debra Lee-DiStefano, Ziping Liu, Charles McAllister, Tiffany Parker, David Powell, Willie Redmond, Joyce Renaud, Desma Reno, Claudia Ruediger, Carol Veneziano, Janice Ward, Victor Wilburn, Diane Wood, and Chris Wubbena. The Provost Ron Rosati was also present. The following alternates were present: Brooke Clubbs, HaoHao Wang, Indi Braden, and Shawn Guiling. Student Government Liaison Amanda Graven was also present. Not in attendance or represented by an alternate was Larry Bohannon, Sophia Scott, and Susan Wehring.
The minutes for February 13, 2013 were approved.
The Faculty Senate met with J.W.Terrill. They explained to the Senate that they were at the University to discuss and get feedback about faculty compensation. A discussion took place.
Senator Christensen introduced five bills to the Senate. These bills were: Regular Faculty Appointments policy section, Regular Faculty Appointments procedures section, Faculty Status of Librarians policy section, Non-Continuing Faculty Appointments policy section, and Non-Continuing Faculty Appointments procedures section. The Senate had discussion regarding these bills. Senator Christensen will be bringing them back to the Senate at the next meeting.
Senator Althaus moved to pass the Human Subjects policy section. Senator Christensen seconded. The Senate voted and Bill 13-A-17 Human Subjects Policy section passed. Senator Althaus moved to pass the Human Subjects procedures section. Senator Christensen seconded. The Senate voted and Bill 13-A-18 Human Subjects Procedures section passed.
Chair Ward had no report.
Provost Rosati reported that the Winter Session name is changing to wintersession and there will be a “Z” in front of the classes so that students are not to confuse them with the spring classes.
Provost Rosati also reported that he has accepted a new job at Nebraska College for Technical Agriculture. He will be starting at the end of June. There will be an interm Provost stepping in. The search for a new Provost will begin in the fall.
Amanda Graven reported that the Student Government elections will be on April 3 & 4. They Student Government is pushing for applicants. They are electing five people from every college.
Academic Affairs- Senator McAllister reported that the Master Faculty Advisor survey
went out last week. The voting will be open until midnight of March 13, 2013. The
committee will be looking at the results over Spring Break and will report to the
Senate at the next meeting.
Compensation- Senator Redmond had no report.
Documents- Senator Wubbena had no report.
Governance- Senator Jung reported that was some concern on Bill 13-A-12 University Standing Committees and Councils policy section. The committee is waiting for feedback. Professional Affairs- Senator Christensen reported that the committee had been working on the five bills that were introduced in New Business.
Membership- Senator Wood reported that Senators should be aware of whose terms are ending. She also reported that there was concern about the date in the Faculty Handbook for the completion of the elections and assured the Senate that it has been corrected.
Senator Christensen moved to pass three emeritus bills for Robert W. Dillon, Bruce R. Domazlicky, and Bjorn Olesen. Senator Dickson seconded. A vote was taken and the bills were passed.
Senator Redmond moved to adjourn. Senator Renaud seconded. The Faculty Senate adjourned at 4:50 pm.
The next Faculty Senate Meeting will be held on March 27, 2013 at 3:00 pm in the UC Missouriana/Redhawks Room.
