Resolution 06-02 Nondiscrimination Policy
REQUESTING CHANGE IN THE UNIVERSITY NONDISCRIMINATION POLICY
WHEREAS: On two occasions in 2001 and once again in 2002, the Faculty Senate voted in favor of revising of the University’s Statement of Nondiscrimination by including a statement regarding sexual orientation, and
WHEREAS: In 2002, an Ad-Hoc Faculty Senate Committee prepared and submitted to the President’s Office a compilation of almost fifty exhibits covering relevant educational, professional, and governmental statements of nondiscrimination, and
WHEREAS: The University President did not approve the Senate recommendations on those three occasions, and
WHEREAS: Since that time, additional Missouri public universities have revised their nondiscrimination statements to cover sexual orientation, bringing the total to six, including Central Missouri State University, Truman State University, and all four campuses of the University of Missouri System,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: the Senate reiterates its previously-expressed sentiment that the University should not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and that it should make a public statement to that effect, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT: the Senate calls upon the President and the Board of Regents to revisit the issue and include a provision in the Nondiscrimination Statement making it clear that the University does not discriminate based upon sexual orientation.
