RESOLUTION CONCERNING SPECIAL ELECTIONS FOR FACULTY ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR ACADEMIC PROGRAM REVIEW

WHEREAS: The Faculty Senate is in the process of updating the policies and procedures in the Faculty Handbook.

WHEREAS: Recently approved procedures for Academic Program Review call for elections to occur the first full week in April and do not include provisions for special elections.

WHEREAS: If elections are not held before April 2012 for the Faculty Advisory Committee for Academic Program Review this committee will be unable to fulfill its responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The Faculty Senate approves special elections to be conducted by the Deans of the Colleges and the School of Polytechnic Studies during September 2011 to fill the initial appointments to the Faculty Advisory Committee for Academic Program Review. Elections should follow all other details in the newly approved procedures for Academic Program Review in the Faculty Handbook.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT: As indicated in the Faculty Handbook procedures, “initial appointment terms will be staggered for continuity.” As a result, initial appointments will be randomly selected and determined prior to the beginning of elections. Therefore, two committee members will be elected for one-year terms to be replaced by elections held in April 2012. Two committee members will be elected for two-year terms to be replaced by elections held in April 2013, and two committee members will be elected for three-year terms to be replaced by elections held in April 2014. Subsequent terms and elections will follow the Faculty Handbook procedures.
